Pulwama, Feb 27 (KNO): A young sports enthusiast from south Kashmir's Pulwama district has successfully earned certification as a C Category National Referee and Judge in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Tauseef Ashraf, a recent Class 12 pass-out from Qasbayaar area of Pulwama, cleared the prestigious national-level examination conducted under the aegis of the Mixed Martial Arts Federation of India, marking a significant achievement both for himself and the growing sports community in Jammu & Kashmir. He was among six nominees from the Union Territory who appeared in the certification process and emerged successful. Tauseef was nominated by the Mixed Martial Arts Sports Association of J&K (Regd.), which is affiliated with the national federation. The certification programme operates under international frameworks linked to the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association and recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia, ensuring global standards in officiating and governance. Coming from a modest background in Pulwama, Tauseef completed his education locally while actively engaging in sports and youth initiatives. His passion for sports began early in life and was nurtured by a teacher who inspired him to pursue athletics with commitment and discipline. Starting at the grassroots level through school competitions and local tournaments, Tauseef gradually expanded his involvement into organising sporting events and encouraging youth participation. Over time, sports became not just a passion but a platform for personal development and community engagement. “Sports have shaped my personality by teaching me discipline, teamwork, and leadership. It has also opened doors for opportunities and career growth,” Tauseef told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He now aims to further strengthen sports culture at the grassroots level across Jammu and Kashmir. He plans to organise more sporting events and create avenues for youth to channel their energy into constructive and healthy activities. "Sports can play a transformative role in society by steering young people away from negative influences and helping them build confidence, unity, and a sense of purpose," Tauseef said. In a message to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir, Tauseef urged them to focus on education, sports, and skill development. “Youth are the backbone of society. Stay away from drugs and harmful activities. Sports not only improve physical fitness but also build character, confidence, and unity. With dedication and positive thinking, we can create a bright future for ourselves and our region,” he said—(KNO)
